The Doors of the Sea: A Summer Book Study at St. Gregory’s |

The Doors of the Sea:
Where was God in the Tsunami?
Wednesdays at 6:45pm in June
One of the most burdensome dilemma’s Christians have is justifying their belief in an all-powerful and loving God within a world so constantly devastated by natural disaster, horrible violence, and inexplicable hatred. It is a quandary that has driven people from faith, brought tears and despair to those who have suffered, and anger to those who feel helpless against tragedy. At St. Gregory’s this summer we will read a wonderful little book written by one of the most brilliant theologians of our day. David Bentley Hart is an Eastern Orthodox theologian whose book The Doors of the Sea is, in my opinion, the best book on these issues which are so close to the heart and so tender. This short book grew out of a brief article he wrote for the Wall Street Journal just days after the devastating Asian tsunamis in December 2004. The book is small, affordable ($14) and beautifully written. Do consider joining us for what promises to be a remarkable and rewarding book study. In this study I hope that we can learn something of the divine victory amid the brokenness of the world.
The book is available through: www.amazon.com or www.eerdmans.com or your local bookstore.
