Welcome, Newcomers and Visitors

Greetings and Peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ! Thanks for visiting our website and for your interest in St. Gregory’s, Mansfield. Most people want to know what a church is like before visiting it. Our desire is to share information that will help you do that.

First, we are God’s people answering Jesus’ call to be faithful and obedient – to be one in Him. We believe everything that Holy Scripture says about God and about His Son, Jesus – that Jesus is the Incarnate Word of God, born of a woman (The Virgin, Mary), that He lived among us to teach and lead us, and, that He died on the Cross taking all sin for all time upon Him in order to save us. Having atoned for all sin, we believe in His bodily resurrection and forty day ministry among the Apostles and disciples. We believe that He ascended to the right hand of the Father to intercede for us; and, that He sent the Holy Spirit to be with His Church leading us into all truth until He comes again to bring us all home.

We believe that it is our faith in Christ’s atoning death and bodily resurrection that saves us. As He himself says, He is the only way to salvation. Further, as His disciples here in Mansfield, we believe that we are called to go into all the world proclaiming this good news, to baptize those who believe it and to teach all in our congregation to keep everything He taught us. We believe that all those who are baptized in Christ are members of his Royal Priesthood, the Priesthood of all believers -- that each is gifted by the Spirit of God to minister in the Church. What gifts has He given you and your children? How are you using them? Are you children aware of and using them? We can help you identify and use them.

We are an Anglican Church, part of the world-wide Anglican Communion, of which the Episcopal Church (TEC) is, for the moment, still a part. As such, we are currently operating under the Constitution and Canons of the Episcopal Church. What is it to be Anglican? The English Reformation (c.1540) sought to re-form corrupt Roman Catholic religion while retaining its Apostolic faith and practice. The Church of England’s first Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Cranmer did this by integrating the liturgies of the Church with reformation theology – that we are saved by faith alone, by grace alone and rely upon scripture alone. At the end of Queen Elizabeth I’s reign, Richard Hooker (c.1600) successfully argued against Puritan objections to Cranmer’s formulation. Hooker’s model for the Church admirably supported Cranmer’s retention of the three-fold ministry (bishops, priests and deacons), Apostolic Succession and liturgy. Hooker effectively argued that our Church is based upon scripture, tradition and reason with scripture in authority over the other two. Notwithstanding the current divisions in TEC, St. Gregory’s  remains in communion with our Anglican sisters and brothers throughout the world. This we do by being in communion with our own Bishop, Jack Iker, Diocesan Bishop of Ft. Worth. We are earnestly praying the power of God’s truth and love into the lives of the episcopate and for reconciliation among them.

St. Gregory’s is comprised of 139 families, about 350 members in good standing.  We have 111 children aged 1 month to 18 years. Most of us live in Mansfield while others live in surrounding communities. We are becoming increasingly involved in outreach ministries – our focus is on ministry here in Mansfield and in Southeast Tarrant County. We are prayerfully seeking His will and the gifts of the Spirit to faithfully do what we’re called to do. Come and worship with us around His table. You are most welcome.
